Negligence is closely related to personal injury. In fact a personal injury is defined as an injury – physical or emotional – that is caused by negligence or intentional wrongdoing. Negligence occurs when a person fails to provide the appropriate level of caution or care, therefore causing injury to another person. An example would be a driver who is speeding on the highway. He is not obeying traffic laws and is being careless. If he causes an accident and injures another driver or passenger he may be held legally responsible for his actions with a personal injury lawsuit.
